Abrogation of Article 35-A: Police foils JKPA’s protest march in Lalchowk
The protests march against attempts to strike down Article 35 A by newly formed political party Jammu Kashmir People’s Alliance was Sunday foiled by police, JKPA spokesman said.
The spokesman in a statement said that police detained 11 members and office bearers of JKPA during a protests march here and raised slogans against the alleged conspiracy of removal of Article 35-A that grants special privileges to the permanent subjects of Jammu and Kashmir.
Chairman JKPA Shaikh Emraan said that India is hell-bent to bring Jammu and Kashmir State completely in its fold.
He said that after removal of the Article a question will be raised over the credibility and essence of Jammu Kashmir Constitution.
Emraan cautioned that in case Article 35-A is removed, Jammu and Kashmir State will become a state like any other state of India with no special status.
“The removal of Article 35-A will give a big blow to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and in near future the state will lose its distinct character,” he said.
He said that there is desperate need to make people aware of the essence of this article. “It’s removal will have a very serious implication,” he said.
As JKPA leaders and workers were taking the march ahead, police bundled a dozen leaders of JKPA including Chairman Shaikh Emraan, Uzair Ronga, Bilal Ahmad Dar, Shaikh Umer, Mudassir Ahmad Mir, Emran Wani, Owais Ahmad and Wajid Kaloo and detained them. The spokesman said that they were released later.
