As a measure to strengthen the daily monitoring and supervision of removal of lily patches being done manually from the Dal waters, the Vice Chairman, J&K Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) today interacted with the various groups of workers engaged by the Authority as part of a special drive against the outgrowth of lily patches in the lake.

The Vice Chairman ascertained the difficulties faced by the skilled labours in respect of gaps in payment mechanism and the middleman system that has been affecting the speed and output of the activity.

The labours demanded the removal of the intermediary system and sought direct payments in lieu of their skilled labour rather than routing it through the middleman. The Vice Chairman exhorted upon the labours to provide their bank account numbers, Aadhaar card details and other required documents to the Authority, so that the payments are directly released to them on weekly basis.

The decision of direct and weekly payments is expected to encourage the skilled labours to work with renewed zeal and vigour ensuring the successful and time bound completion of the operation for removal of lily patches from the lake waters.

On the occasion, the VC assured that adequate logistics shall be arranged, so that the skilled labours are properly facilitated for successful completion of the special drive against unwanted expansion of lily pads.
