OIC asks India to allow Human Rights Commission to Kashmir
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has reaffirmed its support to the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The OIC said this in response to a recent press release issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs regarding the resolution adopted on Jammu and Kashmir by the 44th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, in July 2017.
The OIC in a press release issued in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) emphasized that the issue of Jammu and Kashmir is one of the oldest unresolved international disputes pending on the agenda of the UNSC, the OIC Summit and CFM meetings.
The OIC said that it had endeavoured to engage with India to help in finding a peaceful resolution of the dispute, hoping that the OIC Special Representative on Jammu and Kashmir would be able to visit occupied Kashmir for an objective and impartial judgment of the overall situation there.
It also urged the Indian government to permit a delegation of the OIC’s Independence Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) to visit occupied Kashmir to verify reported human rights violations in the occupied territory.
