Militants attack army camp in Kupwara, soldier injured

An army soldier was injured after militants attack army camp in forest area of Kalaroose in frontier Kupwara district of north Kashmir on Friday late night. 

Official sources said that a group of militants attacked army’s 41 RR headquarter camp which is located in upper belt of Kalaroose forests along LoC.

“The indiscriminate fire continued on the RR headquarter for at least 10 minutes, the troops retaliated the fire which resulted a brief clash”, they said.

During the incident, a soldier of 21 JAK Rifles was injured and has been shifted to military hospital Drugmulla.

Besides 41 RR, the camp also houses troopers of other units including 21 JAK Rifles.

Soon after the attack, the army launched a massive man hunt with the help of reinforcement of Para commandos on all sides adjoining the camp, they said.

The areas that have been cordoned include Upper belt of Kalaroose forests and Kunnad, Kani Behak, Manigah, Chat forest areas of Batpora Haihama.

The attack comes only three days ahead of 15 August, marking 70th independence day of India.
