The Sub District Hospital Sopore on Friday came to limelight for the wrong reasons after a new born baby died, allegedly due to medical negligence by the doctors posted in Maternity and Child Care unit (MCH) of the hospital. The death sparked protests against the hospital authorities.

Mehraj-u-din Dar of Watlab Ghat Sopore, father of the newborn, alleged that due to the negligence of doctor at MCH Hospital his new born baby died.

“My wife Ruqina Begum was admitted on 8th of August at MCH, where in-charge doctors started examining her and we had to stay at the hospital for two days. On 10th of August my wife complained of severe labour pain at about 03 pm and after examining her, under the supervision of Dr Parveena and Dr. Sumaira my wife delivered a male baby,” Mehraj-u-din Dar said.

However, the doctors had recommended that as a precautionary measure the baby needs to be shifted to GB Pant Childrens hospital Srinagar for check up. Dar alleged that the doctors at MCH Sopore had assured him that the newborn is safe.

“After taking the baby to GB Pant hospital, Doctors at the said hospital said that the baby would not survive any longer as he has got severe injuries on his head during delivery. And around 07: 00 pm, the baby died at GB Pant hospital”, he added.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people including relatives of patient assembled at SDH Sopore to mark their protest against the hospital authorities and raised slogans against the accused doctors.

Mehraj-u-din Dar has also registered a case against hospital authorities.

Meanwhile, Block Medical Officer Sopore Dr. Sami who also heads the MCH said that he will look into the matter.
