Minister conducts extensive tour of Budgam

Minister for Public Works Naeem Akhtar today said that decades old roads in Budgam district that had been left out of development process will be taken up on priority basis so that a large population in these areas are also included in the State’s march of progress.

The Minister was speaking to various delegations of people who met him during an extensive tour to Wadwun, Arath, Checkbug, Sholipora, Soibugh and other areas of Budgam. The Minister was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Chief Minister Budgam and other officials.

The Minister said that it is for the first time that 17 kms of roads will be constructed in Soibugh, Wadwun and adjoining areas. He said that quality of roads will be such that they won’t be damaged for years to come due to vagaries of nature.

At Narbal the Minister announced that Narbal-Wadwan road will be completed in two years and the first phase will be commissioned in the current year. He said that the road which ultimately leads to district centre will be upgraded and widened for ease of traffic. The Minister directed the officials to make provisions for proper drainage so that the roads don’t get damaged during rains or winter.

The Minister also announced that the important link roads will be repaired and upgraded too. He appealed the people in removing encroachments voluntarily. He said that a team of locals in liaison with district officials will soon start a drive to remove all encroachments on the roads.

At Arat the Minister said that the major problems of roads, lack of electricity and water will be redressed soon. He announced Rs two lakh from his constituency development fund for construction of washroom complex at the main mosque.

The Minister said that the much awaited work on Garend Khurd road will be taken up in a month’s time. Similarly Sholipora road will be also taken up in the current year. People appealed the Minister to develop a road to Tosamaidan via Sholipora which will be shorter and more reliable road to the tourist resort. He also announced one ambulance to the local health centre. The Minister said that DPR for all other roads will be prepared at the earliest and forthwith taken up for execution.
