Samboora gunfight: One militant killed, 2 others escape

One militant has been killed in a late night gunfight between government forces and militants in Samboora village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The gunfight had started late Sunday when a joint team of Army’s 50 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation at Akram Dar Mohalla, Samboora, Pulwama, a police official said.

“As such the joint team intensified the search operation, the militants believed to be three in number opened fire triggering off an encounter”.

In the gunfight, one Lashkar-e-Toiba militant  has reportedly been killed while as two others have managed to escape, sources said.  Firing has stopped from the last half an hour.

 The slain militant is reportedly believed to be from Pakistan namely Umar of Abu Ismail group.

Stone pelting clashes had  also broken out near the encounter site as people mostly youth tried to disrupt the operation. Police and para-military CRPF in retaliation used teargas shells to disperse the protesters.

During the clashes a civilian also got injured near the encounter site.

In wake of the gunfight, authorities have blocked the internet services in Pulwama as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in the southern district.
