Amid shutdown, youth injured in Sopore clashes

Clashes erupted in North Kashmir’s Sopore area on Sunday after a group of youth appeared in the Down Town area of the town and started pelting stones on the government forces. Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was also observed in South Kashmir’s Anantnag town against the killing of a local militant Yawar Nissar.

Eyewitnesses said that several youth appeared near the native place of one of the slain militant, Danish who was killed in yesterday’s gunfight in Sopore town.

“The youth started pelting stones on forces near down town area forcing them to retaliate by lobbing pellets and tear gas shells to disperse the stone pelters. During the forces action one youth, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad sustained pellet injuries on his back. The injured youth was rushed to SDH Sopore where doctors referred him SMHS Srinagar for further treatment,” witnesses added. 

Meanwhile, Sopore town observed a complete shutdown on the eve of the killing of the three local LeT cadres in an encounter on Friday.

Witnesses said that during the morning hours on Sunday many youth appeared in some parts of the town including Main Chowk, Bus Stand, Downtown, and Iqbal market and pelting stones on private vehicles. The youth were enforcing a strict shut down against the militants killing.

Reports said that a complete shutdown is being observed in Sopore, Baramulla and Hajin to mourn the killings of three militants yesterday.

All shops, business establishments remain complete shut while as public transport is off the roads. However, despite the restrictions imposed by authorities in some localities of Sopore town including Main Chowk, Batpora crossing, Main Bazaar and Tehsil road minor clashes erupted after youths pelted stones on government forces.

Pertinently, three local LeT militants were killed by government forces in Amargrah Sopore of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday morning.

The militants who were killed were identified as Javid Ahmad Dar of Khanpora Baramulla, Aabid Hamid Mir of Hajin Bandipora and Danish Showkat Dar of Batpora Sopore.

Meanwhile, most parts of Anantnag district in South Kashmir observed a complete shutdown against the killing of a local Militant, Yawar Nisar on Thursday.

Shops, business establishments, oil stations and other commercial establishments remained off in the area.

Meanwhile, hundreds of locals are constantly thronging the residence of the slain militant.

Anantnag town, Achabal areas besides, Khanabal areas have also shut down to protest the killing.

Yawar was killed in an encounter with troopers on 03 August in Kanelwan area of Anantnag District.
