Complaints galore against DSEK at CM’s grievance cell
The Directorate of School Education (DSEK) in Kashmir is in news once again and this time also, for wrong reasons.
The department has attracted a huge number of complaints at the CM’s grievance cell which point out to many failures and lacunae. The complaints received by the cell are addressed to the Director School Education, Jammu and Kashmir and are majorly about the absence of teachers at different schools in rural areas.
As per data, the cell received 1128 complaints against DSEK, Kashmir and only 540 against DSE, Jammu, depicting some serious issues within the state’s education department.
The complaints received complain mostly about the delay in salaries to the employees, non-availability of teachers and non-functioning of schools in rural areas of Kashmir.
According to the data, most of such complaints have been resolved and some are still pending.
As per the number of complaints received and as reported by this newspaper on Friday, Health Department in Jammu is also quite efficient, as compared to its counterpart in Kashmir.
Experts, while commenting on the scenario where Jammu is performing far better in comparison to Kashmir said that corruption is rampant in Kashmir which is in turn taking a heavy toll on the functioning of major departments in Kashmir division.
The complaints can be higher than received, as there are people who still don’t know how to register their genuine complaints, experts added.
The inflow of complaints have provided a glimpse of rotten system prevalent in Kashmir. Apart from complaints received by the cell, there are number of other issues that are telling upon the functioning of the Education Department, like recently, it was reported that Migrant teachers are enjoying unofficial holidays since 2016 unrest, and govt reportedly was not paying any heed to the issue.
During last year’s summer agitation, when schools were closed in Kashmir valley, all these teachers left the Valley as they were feeling insecure, now that all the government schools from primary to Higher Secondary level are functioning smoothly, most of these teachers have not returned and reported at their places of duty.
Reports said that around 70 percent of these government teachers have not come back from their homes in Jammu and resumed their duties; however, interestingly, the Government is crediting salaries in their bank accounts.
This is in contrast to what is happening with most of the teacher who have been posted by the education department in various areas of Kashmir, as there have been numerous complaints about delay in the release of their due salaries.
