Clashes erupted in Islamia College Srinagar

Clashes erupted between students and government forces in Islamia College, in Hawal area of Srinagar, reports said.

The students were protesting against the killing of a militant in Sopore.  Abid Hamid Mir of Hajin Bandipora who was killed in an encounter with government forces in Amargrah Sopore, was a student of the college and was on rolls in second year of B.Com.

According to the eyewitness, the students protested in the premises of the college and started raising slogans in favor of Azadi and against India.

Sources said that scores of students later tried to move out of the college. However, a posse of police stationed outside the college intercepted them, triggering clashes. Police use tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.
