Restrictions, shutdown brings Kashmir to standstill
The district administration Srinagar on Wednesday imposed strict restrictions in Srinagar areas falling under the jurisdiction of even Police Stations while the rest of the Valley observed complete shutdown against the killing of two militants and a civilian in Pulwama district on Tuesday.
Officials informed Kashmir Vision that the restrictions under section 144 CrPc were imposed in Srinagar falling under the jurisdiction of seven Police Stations including Khanyar, MR Gunj, Safakadal, Rainawari, Kralkhud, Nowhatta and Maisuma.
Witnesses said that a heavy contingent of police and paramilitary troopers were deployed in the Srinagar areas who had erected concertina wires on roads to halt the vehicular and pedestrian movement.
They said that the roads leading towards downtown were sealed by the forces in the wee hours this morning.
Witnesses said that the forces were not allowing the pedestrians or commuters to pass through the restriction bound areas.
Meanwhile, following the yesterday’s student protests, the state administration had ordered closure of all educational institutions in the Valley to avoid escalation of street protests.
“The class work at all the educational institutes remained suspended today,” officials informed.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was today observed against the killings of two militants and a civilian in Pulwama district.
All the shops, business establishments and petrol pumps were closed while the vehicular movement was also thin on the roads.
Sopore town and its surrounding areas including Rafiabad and Zaingeer belt also observed complete shut down as all shops, business establishments, schools and petrol pumps remained shut while as public transport was off the roads.
Authorities had deployed forces at many parts of town including Main Chowk, Tehsil road, Shah Dargah chowk and Chankhan to prevent any untoward incidents, reports said.
Meanwhile, clashes between protestors and forces erupted at Main chowk, Arampora and Tehsil road areas after some youths appeared and started pelting stones on the deployed forces. The forces retaliate with minor tear gas shelling to disperse the stone pelters.
Besides, the mobile internet services were also suspended across the Valley.
The services were snapped on Tuesday afternoon and were restored on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the local news gathering agency, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Range, Munir Ahmad Khan said that the situation across the Valley remained under control throughout the day.
Meanwhile, District administration Srinagar has decided to suspend the teaching activity in six educational institutions in Srinagar city tomorrow.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone said the class work will remain suspended in Amar Singh College, SP college, Gandhi College, Islamia College, SP Higher Secondary School (HSS) and MP HSS tomorrow.
According to the District Magistrate Anantnag, teaching activity will remain suspended in all Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges of the district tomorrow on August 3, 2017.
