Local Bodies Deptt organizes ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ workshop

Directorate of Urban Local bodies today organized an awareness programme under  ”Swachh Bharat Mission”, at Sherwani Hall Baramulla.

The programme was attended by a large gathering of civil society members, students and other prominent citizens of the District.

The Programme depicted various programme highlighting the need and importance of hygiene.

On the occasion, an Inter school Quiz competition was organized in which 4 school teams namely Wullar, Jhelum, Mansar and Manasbal participated. Team Wullar was declared the winner while as team Manasbal as the runner up of the competition among which commendation prizes were distributed for their felicitation.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Urban Local Bodies Riyaz Ahmad Wani complimented all the participating students and said that basic aim of Swachh Bharat Mission should be disseminated among the common masses.

He said that the programme will be organized across the state and Baramulla was chosen to kick start the awareness programme  themed as “ one step towards sanitation”.

While highlighting the significance of the programme, the Director said that implementation of different components under SBM viz Soild waste management programme, individual and community toilet system etc would bring positive consequences in environment. However he sought public cooperation and urged people to keep their surroundings green and clean.

The Director also said that community toilets will be constructed at Showkat Ali stadium and Old town Baramulla. He also announced the installation of traffic signals in Main Chowk and Azadgunj Baramulla to ease the traffic conjunction and will ensure hassle free movement of the people.

Earlier, a marathon was led by the director in which large number of students, Beopar Mandal representatives, civil society members, employees of Municipality, traders and other sections of the society, holding banners on which different slogans and themes of the programme were written.

Among others ADDC Mohd Qasim Wani, JDP, Dy Director ULB, Tehsildar Baramulla and other concerned EOs were present in the workshop.
