Restrictions today in Srinagar parts

Authorities on Tuesday announced restrictions in areas of Srinagar falling under the jurisdiction of five police stations to prevent protests and rallies against the killing of two militants and a civilian.

Restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC will remain in force on Wednesday under the jurisdiction of Police Stations Nowhatta, MR Gunj, Rainawari, Khanyar and Safakadal in district Srinagar tomorrow as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident, said an official.

Two militants, Abu Dujana and Arif Lelhari, were killed in a gunfight with forces in Harkipora area of Pulwama district of south Kashmir earlier today.

A civilian was killed after forces opened fire on protesters marching towards the gunfight site.

Meanwhile, according to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir all the colleges and schools of Kashmir valley shall remain closed on August, 02 2017 as a precautionary measure.

Kashmir University also postponed all the examinations scheduled for today.

“In view of concerns expressed by students vis-a-vis transportation, all Kashmir University examinations scheduled on August 2, 2017 (Wednesday) are postponed. Fresh dates for the deferred examinations shall be notified separately, later,” a spokesman of the KU said here.

Islamic University of Science and Technology and the University of Kashmir on Tuesday said that the examinations scheduled for August 2 have been postponed.

“In view of concerns expressed by students vis-a-vis transportation Kashmir University examinations scheduled on August 2, 2017 (Wednesday) have been postponed, a spokesperson of the varsity said. Fresh dates for the deferred examinations shall be notified separately, later.

A spokesperson of IUST said that the university has decided to postpone all the examinations scheduled for Wednesday, August 2 due to the prevailing situation.
