Internet chocked again
Jammu and Kashmir government Tuesday suspended mobile internet services across the valley following the killing of Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Abu Dujhan in Hakripora village of Pulwama.
Police on Tuesday morning had asked all the telecom companies to suspend the internet services till further orders.
According to an official, mobile Internet on 2G, 3G and 4G phones was suspended to prevent the spread of rumours on the social networking websites.
With the latest ban order the internet was suspended for 12th time today in 2017 by the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier on last month, July 10, Internet services were suspended in the Jammu region following the attack on a bus which was carrying Amarnath pilgrims. Seven pilgrims were dead and nineteen others injured.
Internet and broadband services in the region were suspended as a precautionary measure following the killing of Amarnath pilgrims in the Kashmir Valley.
According to the data by the Internet Shutdown, a website which tracks the internet shutdowns across India, internet was shut down in Jammu and Kashmir for ten times in 2016.
Mobile internet services were snapped as a precautionary measure in the wake of killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat in an encounter with security forces in Tral.
Authorities cut off high-speed mobile internet services on June 9 in Kashmir following the killing of a civilian by security forces in Shopian district.
On July 1, authorities snapped mobile internet in Anantnag district of South Kashmir following the killing of a woman and injuries to three civilian near the encounter site in Brenthi Dialgam village. Two militants including Bashir Lashkari was killed in the encounter too.
