Govt to reserve jobs for poor
The State government will employ economically poor candidates in government sectors jobs on reservation quota.
The jobs will be reserved for the poorest section of the society and the process will begin after three months.
Minister for Social Welfare Sajad Gani Lone, told a local news gathering agency that the move, first of its kind, will help the poor section of the society to move up the economic ladder.
“The income certificates of the poor will be verified and those who have less income will be included in the reserved job quota,” Lone.
He said that the process of identification of this section of the society will begin after three months.
The minister said that the proposal has been discussed with the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and the deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and it would be sent to the State Backward Commission for evaluation before being placed before the cabinet for its clearance.
The reservation will be exclusively for the poor sections of the society, excluding RBA, SC, ST, ALC, OBC and others. Such categories enjoy 43 percent reservation in government jobs.
“This is a historical decision that will alleviate poverty in the state,” Lone said.
The department has already worked out different eligibility criteria to ensure there was no misuse of the scheme and it reaches the deserved. One such criterion is the annual income of a family and it would be either Rs 50000 or Rs 75000.
“We will put in place a transparent mechanism to ensure that the historical measure is not exploited or misused,” he said.
