Director General of Police, S P Vaid on Friday said the Jammu and Kashmir Police will investigative the presence of the organization (Al-Qaeda) in the state.

Addressing media persons on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar, the DGP said that irrespective of any outfit anybody who picked up the gun is a terrorist for the police.

“There is no proof about presence of Al Qaeda in the state but a militant is a militant (for us) and the outfit does not matter. We will investigate the arrival of Al-Qaeda in Kashmir,” DGP told reporters.

When asked about the attacks on residential houses of Policemen, DGP said it was out their (militants) frustration “because their support structure is handled by J&K police very effectively.”

DGP moreover said all the law enforcing agencies work together while dealing with any situation. “We did support NIA. You know when NIA raids were conducted J&K police was with them,” DGP said when asked that JK Police had avoided arrest of separatist leaders by NIA.

The J&K’s Police chief also said the situation in Kashmir was slowly limping to normalcy given the change in overall situation. “You are all seeing the change. Situation is limping back to normalcy,” he said.

DGP Vaid however, said organizing events like Marathan- ‘Run for peace’ will help in reducing stone pelting incidents.

“Yes it will help. Marathons and sports activities will make children healthy. We believe that healthy brain exists in a healthy body,” Vaid said.

DGP meanwhile, ruled out any apprehensions of any attempts to foil the marathon and said everybody will take advantage of events like this (Marathon). “We want to convey message of peace in the Valley. We are working together with people. J&K police belongs to them,” he said.

When asked are there any reports of NIA questioning senior Hurriyat leaders like Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Yasin Malik and  Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in terror funding case he said: “Time will decide about it.”

Reacting to the UJC Chief Syed Salahudin’s statement against Zakir Musa after Al-Qaeda on Thursday officially announced the establishment of its unit in Jammu and Kashmir, naming Musa as its chief in the state Vaid said “Let them (militant outfits) decide between themselves who is what.”

The DGP briefing about the Marathon being organized by JK Police on Sunday said “Run for Peace” will be flagged off at 6:30 am.

“Children, youth and people of all ages are requested to participate. We expect much larger gathering so let everybody come and join us in this initiative of run for peace,” S P Vaid said.

He said the Marathon will be organised under five categories including full and half marathon for Men with first prize of Rs 75000 and Rs 57500 in the two categories.
