Man held for raping a mentally challenged girl in Srinagar

The Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested a man from the outskirts of Srinagar for allegedly raping a mentally challenged girl.

According to a police statement, a complaint was lodged by the family of a girl, who is in her early 20s in  Harwan police station on Tuesday.  In the complaint, the girl’s brother alleged that he did not know exactly what had happened with her, but the things she said pointed out that she was sexually assaulted.

On this information, the medical examination of the girl was carried out and report of which  confirmed rape, subsequently a case under section 366  and 376 Ranbir Penal Code was registered in police station Harwan.

To expedite the investigation process a special investigation team headed by SDPO Nehru Park Shri Owais Rashid was constituted.

After its hard efforts and through the technical inputs, the investigating team managed to zero in on the accused and arrested him in the outskirts of the city. He was identified as Yasir, a land broker, in his early 40s.

During the course of investigation the accused confessed that he lured the girl and he picked her up from Shalimar on Monday evening and took her to his apartment in the area where  he sexually abused her and later dropped the girl near her residence.

The police said that the accused is on police remand.
