LeT militant held at Sopore

Forces on Tuesday arrested a new Lashkar-e-Toiba recruit in Sopore area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir, police sources said.

They said that government forces including police, 22 RR and 179 CRPF laid a naka at Fruit Mandi Sopore and apprehended a LeT militant identified as Basit Najar of Sopore along with a pistol.

Sources said that on being questioned, Basit revealed that he along with his another associate Danish Matto recently joined LeT and were active in Sopore area.

Sources in police said Basit was earlier involved in number of stone-pelting incidents and series of cases stand registered against him. They said that he was also mastermind in organizing stone-pelting in Sopore.

A police official said pictures of Basit posing with a pistol had also surfaced on social media and he was seen leading protests during funeral of militants along with their associates.
