False alibis could be produced against Hurriyat leaders, fears Hurriyat (M)
Hurriyat Conference (M) Tuesday expressed concern over the 10 day remand granted to National Investigation Agency (NIA) by the Delhi court after the ‘arbitrary and illegal’ arrests of pro-freedom leaders and activists from Srinagar yesterday.
Hurriyat Conference (M) said that they fear that the arrested could be pressurized and harassed during interrogation and after being framed in a fabricated case, false alibis could be produced against them to implicate and sentence them.
“It is evident from the manner in which the Indian media is portraying these investigations that they are meant to further vitiate Indian public opinion against Kashmiris and thereby the ruling party in India can derive political dividend out of it,” the spokesman said according to the statement issued here.
While acknowledging the unwavering support of the people for their political movement and the leadership, the spokesman has thanked them for observing a shutdown to protest and condemn the Government for its persecution of leadership.
Hurriyat (M) also condemned the repeated curfew and restrictions imposed in downtown Srinagar under the garb of maintaining law and order and said that “people of downtown are the constant target of the states revenge against Kashmiri people’s political aspirations and their support to the movement.”
Hurriyat (M) said vandalizing homes and damaging property by the Indian forces has become the order of the day especially in rural Kashmir referring to the Qaimoh and Tarigam Villages in Kulgam where residents were beaten up and their homes vandalized.
On the directions of the Chairman, senior Hurriyat leader, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza today visited the affected villages and expressed solidarity on behalf of Hurriyat leadership with the affected people.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat spokesman condemned the continuous house arrest of Hurriyat Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, senior resistance leader Syed Ali Geelani and repeated arrest of JKLF chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik and termed it ‘completely dictatorial’.
