Search operation in Kulgam leads to protest

Clashes between government forces and protesters erupted in Qaimoh area of Kulgam district on Monday soon after forces started a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO.

Reports said the forces after specific information about the presence of militants cordoned off a certain area in Qaimoh and started a search operation however, locals hit the streets and pelted stones on the troops.

Reports said that youth took to streets and clashed with forces as soon as the latter started the operation in Thokerpora area. They said that 2-3 militants have believed to have given a slip to forces. An official said that the operation was still going on.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted between government forces and youth  in Beerwah town of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

According to the sources, soon after taking part in the ‘Chaharum’ prayers of the slain Tanveer Ahmad who was killed on Friday in army firing, scores of youth took to streets and started protesting.

The forces already deployed there resorted to teargas shelling to disperse the protesting youth, triggering clashes.

Authorities had already imposed restrictions in the area to thwart the protests. Heavy deployment of forces was made in the area.

Pertinently, Beerwah town and its adjoining areas are observing complete shutdown since Tanveer’s killing.
