Beerwah Killing: Army men mistook firecracker as grenade blast, says police

A youth was killed and another injured in Beerwah Budgam after army opened fire on them, when they were on their way to offer Friday prayers in a local mosque.

“A Foot Patrol of the army was returning to its camp and near Beerwah when some miscreants pelted stones on them,” the police statement said.

“Someone among these miscreants also hurled a fire cracker towards the army men. Because of bang the army men thought a grenade was hurled and they retaliated, ” the statement said.

“Two persons identified as Tanveer Ahmed Pala and Mohammed Ibrahim Wani were injured. Among them Tanveer succumbed to his injuries while Ibrahim is stable”, the statement added.
