Thousands attend funeral prayers of LeT militants

Funerals were held for the slain Lashkar-e-Toiba militants Showkat Lohar, Jibran and Muzaffar Hajam, who were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Sheikh Pora Watergam area of Anantnag district.

The three militants were travelling in a vehicle when they were intercepted by the forces.

At the funeral of the slain militants, pro-freedom, pro-militant and anti-India slogans were raised. Thousands of people attended the funeral prayers of slain militants. They came from different areas of south Kashmir to take part in the funeral.

Two rounds of funeral prayers were held in Arwani Bijbehara for the militants. Two rounds of funeral prayers were also held in Danewath Kokernag.

A shutdown was also observed in Anantnag and in parts of three other districts of south Kashmir.

Two militants and a civilian Naseer Ahmad of Hakura Badasgam area were killed in an encounter. The Army is claiming that Naseer too was a militant.

The third identified as Naseer Ahmad of Pehru, Anantnag, was driving the car in which the militants were traveling, police said.

His family denied that their son was militant and said that he was returning from the home of his maternal grandparents. However, SSP Anantnag Altaf Khan said that he was a militant.

Meanwhile, a shutdown was observed in Anantnag and Arwani areas against the killing of the three militants.

Large number of people participated in the funerals of the slain militants, amid pro-freedom slogans.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in the Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday for the fourth consecutive day to mourn the death of a militant.

Mukhtar Ahmad Lone alias Bitta Molvi of Ameerabad Tral along with two of his associates were killed in the forests of Satoora Tral on Saturday.

Witnesses said that business establishments and educational institutions remained closed, there was very little traffic movement in the town and its adjacent areas.
