India-Pak armies exchange shelling along LoC in Mendhar

India  and Pakistan armies on Wednesday again exchanged heavy fire and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC )in Jammu and Kashmir’s Mendhar area of Poonch.

Officials said that shelling was going on in Balakote sector of Mendhar sub-division, Dhar, Lambibari area of Upper Rajdhani in Manjkote in Rajouri district.

Pertinently, a soldier was killed in a sniper fire by Pakistan army at Nowgam area of Kupwara district yesterday afternoon.

Another soldier was killed in Pakistani firing in Nowshera area of Rajouri, a defence spokesman said.

Several civilians were also injured in the Pakistan army fire, he said.

Following the tension along the LoC, state government had yesterday ordered closure of schools lying near LoC in Balakote with immediate effect till further orders. He said that this was done as the situation along the border continued to remain “sensitive’’ and tense. Around 217 students and 15 teachers were rescued from three schools in the wake of heavy mortar shelling along LoC in Nowshera sub-division of district Rajouri.
