Cloud bursts hit southern villages, damage property worth lakhs

Cloud bursts on Tuesday created havoc in South Kashmir districts, which according to the locals resulted in a huge damage to property worth lakhs.

Two residential houses were completely damaged while some others suffered partial damage after flash floods caused by cloudburst hit Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Locals informed that the flash flood water has entered into dozens of residential houses in Nagbal and Naristan villages, causing damage to the public property.

They said that several families have been shifted to safer places.

Tehsildar Tral, Muhammad Maqbool while admitting the damage to two residential houses, said that about ten houses suffered partial damage due to the flash floods.

“All households have been shifted to safer places,” he said, adding that no causality or injury has been reported.

Meanwhile, the cloud bursts and incessant rains in upper reaches of Pahalgam and Ashmuqam here have affected the water supply schemes in the area.

A senior Public Health Engineering (PHE) department told Kashmir Vision that the cloud bursts have damaged 15 water supply schemes in the area.

The officials said that water level of river Lidder and Awora have gone up leading to turbulent flow.

Meanwhile, Chief Engineer PHE said that tanker services have been started in the area while the damaged schemes will be restored in two days.
