Schools closed as mortar shelling continues in Poonch, Rajouri

The India and Pakistan continued to trade fire and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

Heavy shelling was reported from Sauijiyan and Balakote sectors of Poonch and Manjkote sector of adjacent Rajouri district.

While the schools were closed in forward areas of Rajouri yesterday, authorities ordered the closure of educational institutions in Poonch today.

“Mortar shells have landed in villages of Balakote including Barooti, Balakote, Dhrati. People are confined inside their homes,” said a local resident.
