Soldier among two killed in Poonch LoC shelling

An army soldier was killed and another injured on Monday after the armies of India and Pakistan exchanged heavy fire and shelling along the Line of Control in Poonch District of Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, a child was killed after a  shell hit her home in the same sector.

According to an army official, Pakistani army resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling in Balakote sector early morning.

He said that the deceased and injured soldiers belong to Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment but their identity is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, the deceased child is a five-year-old girl namely Syeda. She was killed after a shell hit her house in Behroti area of Balakote sector of Poonch district.

According to the reports, the authorities have started evacuation of locals in many areas as a precautionary measure.
