JKSJA organizes special programme on judicial ethics

Jammu and Kashmir State Judicial Academy (JKSJA), on Sunday, organized a day-long special programme for judicial officers of Kashmir at its office complex in Moominabad.

The Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed, said the greatest strength of the judiciary is the faith of the people in it and that this faith can be earned by developing inner strength of morality and ethics.

He said that the judges have to honour the office that they hold and every action and spoken and written word of theirs should win people’s confidence in the judicial system.

Executive Chairman, J&K State Legal Services Authority, Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, threw light on the international and domestic principles of the judicial conduct. He said that judges must have diligence, integrity, sympathy, intelligence, knowledge besides best conduct in the court.

While highlighting the importance of judicial ethics, integrity and discipline, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey said that judicial ethics are the basic principles for judges.

The chairman, J&K Human Rights Commission & former chief justice of Orissa, Justice Bilal Nazki, informed the audience about the personality of a judge and the standards of judicial conduct whereas the chairman Selection-cum-Oversight Committee on Juvenile Justice, Justice Husnain Masoodi spoke about the decided cases and relevant statutory rules on judicial ethics and conduct of judicial officers.
