Anantnag shuts over mosque desecration

A complete shutdown was observed in the Anantnag to protest the desecration of Jamia Masjid, Islamabad (Anantnag) and the arrest of local youth in the area.

Shops, Business establishments remained shut while traffic movement on the roads was very thin.  Trade Association, Jamiat Ahli Hadees, local clerics, Bar Association, civil society condemned the desecration of the Masjid. Paramilitary troopers were deployed in large numbers throughout the town.

The shutdown call was given by Jamia Masjid committee headed by Mirwaiz Qazi Ahmed Yasir. No prayers were offered in the mosque following the incident in which troopers had damaged the property of the mosque and arrested at least 20 boys including juveniles Massive clashes had erupted in Reshi Bazar, Sherbagh, Cheeni Chowk, Janglat Mandi and Lal Chowk areas after weekly congregational prayers. 

The Auqaf Committee Jamia Masjid headed by Mirwaiz south Kashmir had given call for shutdown.
