Amarnath Yatra: Karnataka pilgrim dies of cardiac arrest

A 58-year-old pilgrim from Karnataka, on Saturday, died of a cardiac arrest at the Baltal base camp, said officials.

As of now, the official figure of the number of Yatris dead in the ongoing Amarnath Yatra is 23.

They said that 58-year-old Nirmala Patel, wife of Shahi Patel, a resident of Ranipora, Karnataka suffered a massive heart attack at Baltal base camp. She was immediately rushed to the nearby medical base camp, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Sixteen Yatris have died either due to medical reasons or accidents while seven pilgrims were killed in a militant attack.

Meanwhile, officials said that the Yatra has been going on smoothly from the Baltal route.

The 40-day annual Amarnath Yatra commenced on June 29 and will conclude on August 7, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan.
