People hail govt’s decision to set up Horticulture University
The civil society and the Fruit Growers Association of Kashmir have welcomed Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s announcement of setting up a Horticulture University in Kashmir.
Pertinently, Jammu and Kashmir is famous for the quality of fruits grown in the state. The fruit industry is the biggest and most reliable source of income for the state.
“Owing to increasing competition, the horticulture sector too needs to compete globally. A sound research and academic support would be essential for this purpose and this requirement cannot be fulfilled without the establishment of a Horticultural University,” The Fruit Growers Association, said in a statement issued here.
“Therefore, the setting up of a Horticulture University, will be a big boost for this industry. It was the dream of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who during his visit to Seeloo Sopore had expressed his desire to establish a Horticultural University at Wadura Sopore,” the statement read.
The Fruit Growers Association, also hailed Minister for Higher Education, Altaf Bukhari, Minister for Horticulture, Basharat Bukhari and MLA Rafiabad, Yawar Mir for their efforts in pushing for a Horticulture University at Wadura Sopore. The association has requested the government and the concerned authorities to expedite the process of implementation of the historic decision on ground.
