PM holds PRAGATI video-conference with Chief Secretaries

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi today asked the Chief Secretaries of all the states to ensure that the registration at various levels under Goods and Service Tax (GST) regime is completed by 15 August 2017.

The Prime Minister said this while reviewing the progress of flagship central projects in his monthly video conference under Pro-active Governance and Timely Implementation (PRAGATI) initiative with Union Secretaries of various Ministries and Chief Secretaries of the States.

J&K Chief Secretary, B B Vyas also participated in the video conference.

Repeatedly stressing on the Chief Secretaries to ensure smooth transition and effective implementation of the new tax regime, the Prime Minister said that all the states should designate senior officers at the block and district levels to ensure registration under GST is completed by 15th August.

The Prime Minister also called upon the State Chief Secretaries to make effective use of Government e-Marketing (GeM) portal for procurement of material and supplies. He said GeM is a transparent mechanism for procurement of material and supplies and more vendors should be encouraged to register on the portal.

Prime Minister also reviewed the progress of various central projects related to Railways and Road Transport & Highways and the status of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).

Prime Minister received detailed brief from Union Secretary, Department of Urban Development regarding redress of grievances.

Secretary, Urban Development & HUPA, Ministry of Urban Development also briefed the Prime Minister about the progress achieved under PMAY. Prime Minister urged Chief Secretaries and the concerned Administrative Secretaries to proactively work out a strategic plan to complete the task of providing housing facilities to all under the mission before the year 2022. He called upon the State Governments to ensure weekly review of the progress under PMAY and take it forward as a development model for improving the quality of life of the citizens. He said status reports should also be sent to the PMO.
