Mirwaiz detained in Srinagar

Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was arrested in Srinagar while trying to march towards martyr’s graveyard Khawaja Bazar. He was on his way to pay homage to 22 civilians killed by Dogra forces in 1931.

Earlier, Mirwaiz was placed under house arrest in Nigeen. He was detained outside his house when he tried to come out of his residence and was taken to Nigeen police station, a party spokesman said.

Meanwhile, restrictions were placed in parts of Srinagar to curb the movement of people on the occasion of martyr’s 62ndanniversary.

Twenty two  Muslims were killed on July 13, in 1931 after forces of Maharaja Hari Singh opened fire on protesters in the premises of central jail Srinagar.
