Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh today directed Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to launch a drive to remove encroachments along drains and Nallahs to prevent overflowing and water logging in Jammu city.

Dr Singh was speaking at a meeting attended by Commissioner, JMC M. Raju, Joint Commissioner, JMC R S Jamwal, Executive Engineers and other officers of the Corporation.

“There is an imminent need to remove encroachments on nallahs  which is the main cause of waterlogging and overflowing of rainwater,” Dr Singh said and directed JMC to activate men and machinery to deal with the menace.

He further directed JMC to start remodelling of deep drains where ever required to prevent water logging in busy areas of the city.

In the meeting, Dr Singh enquired about the new projects being taken up by the Corporation for improving the drainage system in the city.

It was informed in the meeting that the JMC has kept its men and machinery on standby to clear water logging at various places and deal with any exigency arising out of the heavy rainfall in Jammu.

The Deputy CM was further informed that the rapid increase in population has led to the filing of Nallahs over their capacity which leads to overflow of drains in the rainy season.
