National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah on Thursday lashed out at ruling coalition partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for skipping the 86th Kashmir Martyrs Day function.

He said that July 13, 1931 was a watershed moment in the history of Kashmir and marked the beginning of a struggle against tyranny, oppression and despotism.

He said that the BJP- People’s Democratic Party (PDP) alliance is only there to stay in power and loot the state and have got nothing to do with the people of the Valley.

“It is obvious. They have nothing to do with this. They are only here to stay in power and loot the public of Jammu and Kashmir,” Abdullah told media here.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti along with Abdullah today paid tribute and observed the Kashmir Martyrs Day or the 86th Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Kashmir, which celebrates the sacrifice of 22 valiant people on July 13, 1931.

Coalition partners in Jammu and Kashmir state government, the BJP skipped the event while the separatist leaders were not allowed to carry any rally or programme on the eve of the Martyrs Day.

To avoid any possible clash on this day, the government has put strict restrictions across Srinagar.

Mobile and internet services have also been blocked across the Valley.
