World Population Day observed at Udhampur

Department of Health in collaboration with District Information Center today organized an awareness campaign-cum – symposium competition on “World Population Day” at ANMT School, District Hospital Udhampur.

This year the ‘World Population Day’ is being celebrated on the theme “Nayi Lehar, Naya Vishwas, Sampoorn Zimmedari se Parivar Vikas’.

District Development Commissioner, Niraj Kumar was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Addressing a large gathering of ANMs, ASHAs and students, the Chief Guest said that the main objective of observing this day is to increase awareness about the population explosion and various measures that can be taken to control it. He also stressed on the importance of family planning. 

“Population explosion has affected the availability of resources.  With the increase in the population, the consumption of natural resources has also gone up as a result of which natural resources are under great stress. Hence, the need of the hour is to generate awareness among the common masses on this issue”, the DDC said.

Various speakers from ANMT School spoke on the occasion and threw light on the topic. A skit highlighting the advantages of having a small family was also presented by the students of ANMT School.

Earlier, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. K.C Dogra and Dy CMO Santosh Sharma briefed the gathering about the ‘Mobilization Fortnight’ and ‘Population Fortnight’ to be celebrated from 11thJuly to 24th July. .

 Mukesh , Safia Begum and Akansha who were adjudged first, second and third respectively in the symposium competition, were felicitated with prizes by District Information center, Udhampur . Consolation prizes were also given to Nisha and Shehnaz.

Among others, CEO J. R. Bhardwaj, DPO Sandeep Seointra, DSWO Rachna Sharma, BMOs besides ASHAs, ANMs and students of ANMT School were present on the occasion.
