People protesting against thrashing, face tear-gas shells in Kashmir capital
Five civilians including two women were injured on Monday after government forces resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse protesters in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar.
Earlier the troopers of 29 Bn allegedly thrashed a driver after being signalled to stop on the national highway. The thrashing triggered protests by the people who were demanding an FIR be registered against the para-military forces. The protest demonstration triggered a massive traffic jam on the highway, leaving thousands of vehicles stranded.
Forces deployed in the area lobbed teargas shells to disperse the protesters, resulting in injuries to five persons, including two women.
Meanwhile, the injured driver, identified as Firdous Ahmad of Frestbal, was shifted to JVC hospital in Bemina where from he was referred to SKIMS for specialised treatment.
