Infiltration bid foiled in North Kashmir, three militants killed: Army
The Army on Monday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid and kuilled three militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nawgam sector of north Kashmir’s Handwara area.
“A group of militants tried to infiltrate from across the border. They were challenged by the troops, following which a gunfight ensued,” said GoC 19 Infantry Division R T Kalita.
He said the militants tried to infiltrate by exploiting thick forest cover in the area but were detected by Army troops on time.
“The militants resorted to indiscriminate firing on Sunday late night hours and tried to infiltrate to this side. It was a major infiltration bid which was successfully foiled by our jawans,” he said.
He said the Army authority lauded the courage of troops.
“It was the 4th infiltration bid which was foiled by Army in past two months. Army has resolved that we will keep strict vigil along LoC and foil all such nefarious design in future,” he said.
He said during the operation, a huge ammunition of arms and ammunition was recovered by the Army personnel.
It may be recalled that it was the 11th time that Army has foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in various sectors.
On April 10, four militants were killed as Army foiled its first infiltration bid in Keran in Kashmir division. It was the first infiltration bid by militants in the year 2017.
Later in the month of May, Army foiled five infiltration bids by suspected militants at LoC.
Two Pakistani Lashkar-e-Toiba Fidayeen were killed in a brief gunfight in Waripora Handwara on May 14. On May 20 four militants were gunned down by forces after it foiled another infiltration bid in Niwgam Handwara. Three soldiers were also killed on May 21.
On May 26 Army claimed to have foiled BAT action in Uri sector and killed two infiltrators while as on May 26 six militants were killed after Army foiled an infiltration bid in Rampur sector in Baramulla
Meanwhile in June, Army foiled four infiltration attempts by militants on LoC.
Four foreign militants were killed in gunfight on June 07 after army foiled an infiltration bid in Machil while as three militants and a soldier was killed on June 08 after Army foiled another infiltration bid in Nowgam sector.
Five foreign militants were killed along LoC in Uri sector on June 9 and one foreign militant was killed in Gurez sector as well.
