JKCC calls for complete shutdown tomorrow
Hours after the government detained scores of trade union leaders when they carried out a protest march against the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the state, the Jammu and Kashmir Coordination Committee (JKCC), a group of traders and civil society members Tuesday called for a complete shutdown today.
The shutdown according to the JKCC leaders has been called against what they termed as ‘the government highhandedness’ and the implementation of GST in JK.
JKCC leaders said that the authorities “unlawfully” detained them during the protest today. “There was no reason to put us behind bars and to stop us from raising the voice against the government’s imminent decision,” JKCC said.
The newly formed JKCC group appealed people to observe complete shutdown on (July 05) today against the government ‘highhandedness’ and its ‘imminent decision’ of implementing GST.
Meanwhile, Kashmir Traders and Manufacturing Federation (KTMF) led by Bashir Ahmad Rather said that the authorities would likely shift the detained traders to Srinagar’s Central Jail.
“Several traders and civil society members including Muhammad Yasin Khan, Bashir Ahmad Rather, Hilal Mandoo and others would likely be shifted to Central Jail in the evening or morning hours,” he said.
