Joint Working Group meeting on HIV/AIDS convened in Srinagar

An inter-departmental co-ordination meeting of the Joint Working Group on HIV/AIDS for combating the spread of HIV affected people, de-addiction of drugs and promoting safe and voluntary blood donation camps was Thursday held in the office chamber of the Project Director J&K State AIDS Control Society (JKSACS).

The meeting discussed various issues concerning HIV/AIDS, including those related to wholesome HIV/AIDs awareness programmes at different levels across the State. It was suggested during the meeting that the JKSACS should organize camps for promoting safe voluntary blood donation camps. It was also decided that a message regarding Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) be aired through the FM radio.

Speaking on the occasion, Director, School Education, Kashmir, Dr. G. N. Ittoo, who was a special invitee to the meeting, assured of providing full support for conducting the required training to teachers in Kashmir. He said a plan on drug de-addiction has already been submitted to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and will soon be shared with the JKSACS.

The meeting was attended by representatives of various departments including Directorate of School Education, Women’s Development Corporation, Directorate of ICDS Projects and Directorate of Youth Services & Sports.
