Handloom, Handicraft sectors craving for revival: Bhat

Handloom and Handicrafts Corporations are engaged in a serious exercise to add to present rate of production and sales.

While Ministry of Industries has cleared several proposals for revival of the two sectors, finance Minister is considering release of funds to meet the urgent needs.

Disclosing this to various deputations of employees of the two corporation Vice Chairman Nizamudin Bhat said that it is important that art and craft in Kashmir is restored to its pristine glory and the state is able to become a legitimate share-holder in National and International market.

Nizamudin Bhat said efforts will be made that resource base of the two corporations becomes adequate for their functioning and the desired objectives of skill development and promotion of goods and crafts of local produce are achieved.

He said that dependence on government aid, loan or on central projects in the two sectors is understandable in the backdrop of losses accrued out of turmoil and of unfavorable nature.

“But other alternatives to growth and promotion like adequate use of available man power support, from social sector and from sister organizations is something which can help face the crisis,” he said.

Bhat exhorted upon employees of the corporations to make a fair assessment as to how their commitment and dedicated work will come as a boost to promote the art, crafts and indigenous economy.

He said that some innovative methods also are envisaged for market promotion and sales and suggested a larger connect and reach out to increase accessibility and customer attraction.

He said that the two establishments are of vital importance for employment generation, economic activity and display of heritage and tradition and government is conscious of problems as well as the significance.

He disclosed that in order to improve sales, occasions like Amarnath Yatra provide an opportunity to reach out and in this regard he is made a contact with relevant quarters to formalize required activity.

Bhat said that employees have a key role in making the corporations a success and management will do everything to protect their interest. Similarly, artisan’s weavers and others connected with production of goods and crafts form the nerve of this sector. He solicited their support in protecting the stake and mutual interest.

Bhat exhorted upon the Finance Department to extend necessary support and appealed the Finance Minister. Dr Haseeb Drabu to lend a helping hand in the interest of thousands of artisans, weavers and workers.
