Two injured in fresh cross border firing
Two women were injured in the firing from across the border in Rajouri and Uri areas of state further intensifying the tension between the India and Pakistani troops.
In a fresh round of skirmishes between the Indian and Pakistani troops, Pakistani forces targeted Indian posts and civilian areas with mortar bombs and automatic weapons along the Line of Control in Rajouri district. The action was retaliated effectively by Indian troops.
“The Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing from small arms, automatic weapons and mortars on Indian Army posts along the LoC in Bhimbher Gali (BG) sector,” a Defence spokesman said.
A 35-year-old woman, who was identified as Naseem Akhtar suffered splinter injuries when a shell exploded near her house in Basooni hamlet of Balakote sub-sector, police officials said. A water tank was also damaged in a shell fired by the Pakistan Army.
Panic gripped the area due to heavy shelling by the Pakistan Army. On Thursday two Indian Army jawans were injured when Pakistani troops fired from small arms and shelled mortars on forward posts and civilian areas along the LoC in Poonch district. On June 27, Pakistani had violated the ceasefire by shelling areas along the LoC in Bhimbher Gali sector. There have been 23 ceasefire violations by Pakistan in June besides a cross-LoC attack.
Indian Army alleged that the Pakistani troops today violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control in Uri sector of Kashmir, injuring a woman. The Indian Army retaliated to the Pakistani firing. “Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing in Gwalta area of Uri Sector around 9.30 am,” a police official said.
He said 45-year-old Shakeela Bano sustained splinter injuries in the action of Pakistani troops. The injured woman was taken to a hospital where her condition is stated to be stable.
In an action by the Border Action Team (BAT) in Poonch area of Jammu division earlier two army jawans were killed and another one was injured. The tensions between the Inida and Pakistani troops have escalated due to the constant firing along the border.
Earlier Pakistan had claimed that two of its teenagers were killed while a civilian was injured as Indian troops resorted to heavy firing along the border. The casualties occurred in Tatta Pani sector of southern Kotli district of Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK). The firing along the borders has continued unabated amid the escalation in the infiltration attempts from across the border. The firing along the border has continued even as the increasing number of militants are trying to sneak into the Indian side.
