NSSO celebrates National Statistics day

The Field Operations Division of National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) Srinagar under Union Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation celebrated the 11th Statistics Day 2017 at Institute of Advanced Studies in Education, M. A. Road Srinagar.

The Statistics Day is celebrated every year on 29th June with the aim and objective to aware the masses especially the younger generations about the role of statistics for planning and policy formulation. This year “Administrative Statistics” has been chosen as the theme of the Statistics Day. ”Administrative Statistics” refers to the information collected primarily for Administrative purpose

Administrative Statistics provide information that is relevant to the working of the government. Administrative Statistics are generated through various administrative activities like registration, transactions, implementation, monitoring, record keeping etc. Any document that is related to registration, transactions, implementation, monitoring, record keeping etc. is called administrative records. It is also related to day to day business transactions.

The introductory address by Altaf Hussain Haji (ISS), Director, National Sample Survey Office, Field Operations Division highlighted the meaning and role of “Administrative Statistics”. Altaf Hussain Haji also gave the overview of “Administrative Statistics” with reference to National Sample Survey Office and Central Statistics Office. In his address he also said any type of “Administrative Statistics” is the a very important tool of decision making. He appeals to all citizens to co-operate NSSO and gave valuable and correct information so that planning and policy should be streamlined properly.

Sonam Lotus Director, MET Srinagar was also present in the inaugural function. In his address he highlighted the role of weather Statistics which is important tool of advance information & prediction of weather.

Also Maqsooda Khan Principal, Institute of Advanced Studies in Education Srinagar, also shared her valuable views and emphasized about role of statistics in education

The Professors, Scholars and other guests also participate in the function. The researchers, teachers and students also present their technical papers with reference to the theme Administrative Statistics and highlighted the role of “Administrative statistics”.

The Vote of thanks was presented by Suraya Anwar Senior Statistical Officer NSSO (FOD) Regional Office Srinagar. The overall function was coordinated by Sheikh Taheen Mustafa Senior Statistical Officer, Tariq Ahmad Tanga Senior Statistical Officer and Inam Ul Haq Rafiqi. Administrative Officer
