The ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has flayed the National Conference (NC) over “labelling’’ people of Srinagar’s old city as drug addicts, stating that the NC’s hidden policy over  Kashmiri  has been exposed.

Senior PDP leader and MLC, Khurshid Alam, said that every responsible citizen of state has denounced the statement of NC as it is the old city of Srinagar that has “remained hub of Kashmir’s culture and civilisation for decades.’’

“The place has produced great scholars, poets, writers and seers. There were great saints of Kashmir who have preached in old city of Srinagar and its people haven’t forgotten those teachings. NC spokesman should have kept that in mind before spitting venom against the people of Srinagar,” Alam said.

While condemning the brutal “cold blooded murder’’ of DySP Ayub Pandith, PDP’s Srinagar district president, Alam, said in a statement on Sunday that the formation of SIT to nab the “culprits is a welcome step of the government.’’

“We want the killers of the police officer to be punished as per the law of the land. However, how could the national conference bundle people of Srinagar’s old city as drug addicts and thugs. How such a brutal character assassination could be tolerated. By such statement, NC has once again revealed its true face before the people and its intentions were never as clear as they are today. The party is merely repeating its rhetoric of 2010 when it unleashed a reign of terror on innocent youth, the repercussions of which are being harvested today by one and all,” Alam said.

Hailing the courage and bravery of the slain cop, Alam said his sacrifice would always be hailed and remembered in times to come. “The party is very hopeful that those who lynched this police officer will be brought to justice and exemplary punishment will be given to them,” said the PDP leader, after attending the Fateha of DySP at Malkha, Srinagar.

The PDP leader prayed for the departed soul and expressed solidarity with his family at this hour of irreparable loss.
