Sports build self-confidence, help develop personality: Minister

Saying that sports play a vital role to keep mind and physique fit, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary said sports also builds self-confidence and develops personality besides help in keeping youth away from social evils like drug abuse, smoking and drinking.

The Minister was speaking at the final of Summer Cup-2017 played today between Satriyan Cricket Club and RS Pura Cricket Club at Government Boys Middle School, Satriyan.

Interacting with the players, the Minister said, “Winning and Losing are part of the game but we must learn sportsmanship, leadership, perseverance, and resilience from the game which are bulwarks of a progressive society.”

Referring to “Khelo India” Scheme, the Minister said the Government has been working relentlessly for the upgradation of existing and creation of new sports infrastructure across the state to provide facilities to the budding sportspersons.

Earlier, the Minister was introduced with the players.

After winning the toss, RS Pura Cricket Club chose to bat first and set a target of 95 runs in 10 overs.

Chasing the target, Satriyan Cricket Club scored only 60 runs,  and lost to RS Pura Cricket Club.

Sunil Jamwal of Satriyan Cricket Club was declared ‘Man of the Series’ while Shubham Sharma of RS Pura Cricket Club was adjudged ‘Man of the Match’ who received a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 2,000 each.

Later, the Minister handed over trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 to the winning team and a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 13,000 to runner-up team.
