Missing Srinagar JE’s body recovered from Jhelum

The body of a Junior engineer who went missing after allegedly committing suicide by jumping into Jhelum river in Srinagar has been recovered after nearly two months.

The body of Mudasira Javid, wife of Javid Ahmad Bangri, the resident of Ellahi Bagh Buchpora was recovered from Jehlum river in Paribal area of Hajin in Bandipora district on Friday morning.

The body was earlier sent to CHC Sumbal for post-mortem and later shifted to SMHS Srinagar for further medical investigation, officials said.

Mudasira had allegedly jumped into Jhelum at Old Zaina Kadal Bridge after alleged harassment by her husband and in-laws on May 5.

The family of the deceased had earlier sought through investigation into the case and had alleged that the slain was harassed by in-laws for dowry.

Earlier, her family staged a protest demonstration in press colony Srinagar suspecting foul play about the entire episode.

“We want to know two things. What were they (Mudasir and her husband) arguing about before she left the house and how did they [in-laws] know she went to Zaina Kadal bridge? There are many bridges on the way to Zaina Kadal.” Irfan Aziz Butta, brother of the deceased had told media during a protest demonstration.

The family claimed that her in-laws would repeatedly harass her and had demanded that police should question her in-laws and her husband.

Incidentally, the family members of the slain had called on MLA Hazratbal and Minister State for Social Welfare, Asiea Naqash and had sought her intervention into the case.

Meanwhile, according to the reports, Police and teams of NDRF were on job to trace her dead body from river Jhelum for last forty-eight days.

An FIR number 29/2017 has been registered at M R Gunj Police Station regarding the case but were unable to arrest any suspect due to lack of any evidence and eyewitness.
