Minister for creating wider awareness about worker welfare schemes

Minister of state for Health and Medical Education, Housing and Urban Development, and Social Welfare Asiea Naqash today stressed on wide awareness of Workers Welfare schemes for the benefit of the labour class.

She was speaking at awareness cum cheque distribution function organized by the Office of Assistant Labour Commissioner here.

While lauding the efforts of labour class, the Minister said their contribution in the development of any nation cannot be ignored.

Stressing on wide publicity of the labour welfare schemes particularly BOWC (Building and other Construction Workers Welfare) Act – 1996.  She also said that word of mouth publicity would be most suitable medium of publicity for the propagation of these schemes. She asked the workers to bring their co-workers under the ambit of the scheme for the benefit of all.

The Minister said that schemes have been envisaged to benefit the lower sections of the people who mostly live hand to mouth.  She reiterated the commitment of the Government to reach out to all sections of the society.

Later the Minister distributed cheques among the labourers.

Syed Muried Hussain Shah, CEO/Secretary J&K Building and Other Construction Welfare Board, who was also present at the function, said that they have distributed Rs1.75 crores over the past two years.

He also said that the government is very cooperative working with sincerity to implement this scheme.

On this occasion, the Minister directed bank officials to credit the amount under welfare scheme before Eid to their accounts.

The function was attended by also attended by District Development Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone, Deputy Labour Commissioner, Ghulam Rasool Kumar, General Manager J&K Bank.
