Alleged medical negligence case: Police fails to make headway
Even if police has registered an FIR in an incident that occurred on Wednesday last week in SMHS hospital’s ward number 18, the investigation is still going on in snail’s pace and the investigation has not revealed anything yet.
A woman, identified as Maimuna (60), allegedly died because of the negligence of doctors on duty.
In this connection an FIR vide: 27/304 was registered in police station Karan Nagar, and investigation was taken up, however, as of now, nothing has come out of the investigation process.
While giving details about the case and the development so far, Investigation Officer of the case, Muhammad Shafi said that “we have taken up the investigation and have forwarded a correspondence to Principal GMC and Medical Superintendent, SMHS in this regard,” adding that they are still waiting for their response.
Sources within the police are saying that the family did not agree for the post mortem of the dead body initially, this, as per the sources is hampering the investigation process, as there are no clear leads in the case that would have led the investigation team to certain conclusion.
However, the family of the deceased is having something else to say. According to Sahil Pandith, son of the deceased said “they (police) did ask for post mortem of the body, but quickly registered the case,” adding that “now they are saying that the post mortem was not done, this is pathetic.”
The incident occurred when the medicos had gone for a strike following the thrashing of their colleague. The doctor on duty was beaten up to pulp by a cop, who was later identified as former SHO, police station Karan Nagar. Demanding action against the erring cop, the doctors had gone on strike.
The police are trying to buy time to reach to any conclusion in the case, and so is the hospital administration, that is why even after almost a week they (administration) have failed to respond to the correspondence, sources added.
The family of the deceased said that they will continue to fight for justice.
