Working of Tribal Affairs department reviewed

A review meeting of Tribal Affairs department was held under the Chairmanship of Vice Chairman State Advisory Board for the Development of Gujjar & here today.

Threadbare discussions were held on various issues of Development pertaining to Department which include; Construction of G&B Hostels, Setting up of cluster Model villages, Milk Villages, Skill Development, Construction of shelters for nomads for which Rs. 2.25 crore is to be spent Tribal Bhawan, Tribal research institute at Srinagar, Status of pre & Post matric scholarship.

Besides, release of funds in G&B Hostels under material & Supplies and outsourcing of upkeep nomination of District Advisory Groups and opening of PG Boys Hostel at Srinagar was also brought under discussion.

Secretary Tribal Affairs, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi briefed the meeting regarding the status of implementation of various schemes meant for Tribal Population.

It was told in the meeting that expenditure could not be made to the desired level during the last financial year due to continuous disturbance in the valley. However, matter has been taken up with Planning & Development Department/ Finance Department for revalidation of unspent funds, so that the works could be taken up during the current financial year. The Vice Chairman directed the officers to expedite the revalidation of funds.

It was also discussed that the Finance Department shall arrange funds under material & supplies & out sourcing of upkeep in G&B Hostels to mitigate the suffering of inmates & casual workers. The Vice Chairman advised the participants to follow up all issues, so that the benefit of welfare Schemes could reach to the community people at the gross root level.

Director Tribal Affairs Department, M.S. Choudhary apprised that 124 ST, Youth have been covered under skill Development and an amount of Rs. 23.24 lakhs has been spent on training of such youth. He also apprised that Rs. 19.00 crore shall be spent on pre & post matric scholarship to ST Students during the current financial year.

Director Area Planning Bilal Ahmad, Joint Director (R&F) Finance Department, Showkat Hussain Mir, Secretary State Advisory Board for the Development of Gujjar & Bakerwal, Mukhtar Ahmad, Deputy Director Planning, Tribal Affairs Mohammad Yousuf Rather and senior officers participated in the meeting.
