Students face the brunt of water scarcity at KU
Students at University of Kashmir, on Friday, complained that they were facing acute water scarcity as the taps were running dry and that the varsity had failed to provide essential services in the departments of campus.
A delegation of students said, “Despite being the holy month of Ramadan, we are still facing a tough time due to non-availability of water supply in our departments. It is not for the first time that water supply has been shut, it has happened in past as well. Most importantly, water supply remains off for at least four hours in day.”
Students of Political Science Department said that they were unable to perform ablution for afternoon prayers as the water service was hit. “We didn’t offer the prayers. It is the highly irresponsible on the part of the concerned authorities to have slept over such an important issue and they are doing nothing to overcome the problem.”
Many students also stated that the filters of their respective departments were rusted which posed a threat to their lives.
They said, “Despite being aware of these infrastructural problems, the authorities at the varsity are not serious and have not taken up repairing till now. Now, students do not want to drink water from these rusted filters.”
Meanwhile, Dean Academics Affairs, Musadiq A Sahaf, said that he will look into the matter. “I was unaware about the issue. Now that I have been informed, I will sort out the problem.”
