JKPSC commits faux pass: Answer papers evaluated using wrong keys

The JK Public Service Commission (PSC) has once again come under scanner over  its selection process in various competitive examinations.

In a recent development, PSC has been directed by the Chief Minister’s office to disclose the official answer keys immediately after each examination so that student grievances are minimized and high level of transparency is maintained as well.

The development comes after it was exposed that PSC in its official key of KAS preliminary exams had given wrong answers for around 16 question and was adamant to make the key public.

The candidates however, had filed an RTI to seek official key of KAS exams which exposed that 16 answers in the key were wrong.

The issue was highlighted in a section of media following which the students who were dropped in preliminary exams approached CM’s office with their grievance that PSC should make its key public.

“Some Questions posed in the General Study paper and Optional Political science papers have been evaluated with a wrong key,” the candidates said.

The candidates said they filed RTI application in JKPSC on March 24 and sought Xerox copy of OMR sheet, total score obtained and official Key.

“After my repeated requests and daily visits to JKPSC office, PSC allowed me to check my total score which is 257 but I was surprised to see 11 answers which I had marked correctly were wrong in official answer key,” said one of the aggrieved candidates.

Moreover, 3 more Questions in General Studies key of JKPSC were also wrong, the candidates said.

Meanwhile, the candidates who were dropped in the preliminary exams stated before the officials in CM’s grievance cell that they were threatened by PSC to debar them from upcoming exams if they continue to seek information.

“We all are in mental trauma taking anti depression medicines. PSC is playing with our career,” reads the representation submitted by the aggrieved students.

In wake of this CM’s private office shot a letter to PSC Chairman  Lateef u Zaman Deva asking him to disclose official key after holding every competitive exams to maintain transparency.

“In respect of various competitive examinations conducted through JKPSC, it has been reported that official answer keys have not been disclosed which has led to the outpouring of grievances from candidates across the state,” reads the letter shot to PSC Chairman.

It reads that JKPSC should disclose the official answer keys immediately after each examination so that student grievances arc minimized.

Pertinently, following the row, PSC has withdrawn its notification to conduct KAS mains examination from July 17. The recruiting agency has also sent questions with wrong keys for re-verification.
